Representative Michael Harden currently
serves Banks, Franklin and Stephens Counties in the Georgia House of
Representatives. First elected in 2008 at the age of 28, Michael currently
serves on the Higher Education, Transportation, Motor Vehicles, and Agriculture
and Consumer Affairs committees.
Representative Harden has quickly become a
rising star in legislative circles. He received national attention for his
proposals to require drug testing of welfare recipients and has conducted
interviews with CNN and FoxNews. He has also been appointed by the Speaker of
the House to represent Georgia on the Southern Legislative Conference
Agriculture Committee and to serve on the Georgia Workforce Investment Board, a
state advisory panel for economic development and job creation.
Born and raised in Toccoa, Michael learned
the value of hard work early from his mom, Carolyn Holland, a single mom who
raised him while running her own business. Michael graduated from Stephens
County High School and Emmanuel College and began his political career serving
as Chairman of the Stephens County Republican Party and working for the late
U.S. Congressman Charlie Norwood.
Today, Representative Harden is the owner of ‘Native
Son Log Homes’, a company that builds “Handcrafted” log homes for customers
throughout the U.S. When not at the Capitol or serving constituents here at
home, Michael can usually be found with his college sweetheart and wife,
Janelle on their farm in Stephens County.
